What we do

Aneira is a new mission-driven company building new services at the intersection of human care, computational biology and machine learning. We are here to offer a smart, equitable and sustainable health and care service for women, families and communities.
We are part of the Population Health Partners family.

What this role is about

Lead the design, development and hands-on delivery of a multi-modal analysis pipeline including clinical, genomic, imaging data for a full-stack women’s health solution. This role requires deep technical expertise in data engineering, biomedical informatics and cloud architectures to create a comprehensive, evidence-based approach that drives innovation and enhances patient care.

What you’ll do

Biomedical Data Engineering:
  • Architect and build a high-performance, scalable data architecture for ingesting, storing, processing and analysing large, multi-model datasets from a wide range of sources:
    • Genomics
    • Laboratory observations (e.g., hormones)
    • Imaging
    • Self-reported symptoms (e.g., app questionnaires)
    • Clinician and user reports
    • Wearables
  • Own the end-to-end development and optimisation of data analysis pipelines for Aneira, ensuring high data quality, reliability and performance leveraging cloud-based technologies.
  • Be heavily involved in writing code, as well as coaching team members - deploying data pipelines, and optimising systems for real-world healthcare applications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define the data strategy, ensuring seamless integration with product design and hands-on delivery of solutions that align with health informatics best practices.
  • Collaborate with the CTPO and product team to integrate onboarding design and delivery within Aneira's tech capabilities, ensuring seamless data capture and management systems that align with health informatics best practices.
Health Informatics and Data Integration:
  • Engineer and optimise health information management systems that enable the secure collection, storage, and management of patient health data.
  • Design and implement ETL pipelines to integrate data from various sources (e.g., EHRs, clinical decision support systems, wearables) into a unified data architecture (e.g., data lake) to facilitate accessibility and usability for personalised care.
  • Establish and maintain secure data exchange protocols ensuring compliance with industry regulations.
Advanced Analytics and Innovation:
  • Develop and maintain robust SOPs and pipelines for processing genomic, microbiome, proteomic, and other multi-omics data.
  • Drive innovation in the application of biomedical informatics by Identifying, evaluating, and implementing best-in-class tools and methods to analyse complex, multi-modal women’s health data.
  • Contribute to architecture discussions with a specific focus on:
    • HPC/cloud strategy
    • Data strategy
    • Third-party researcher data access
Stakeholder Partnerships:
  • Collaborate with clinicians and scientists to ensure the platform meets clinical and user needs.
  • Partner with external researchers and organisations to ensure interoperability with a broader healthcare ecosystem.
  • Contribute to publications in biomedical informatics, genomics and women’s health journals.
  • Drive publications in leading bioinformatics, genomics, and women’s health journals and conferences.
Leadership and Culture:
  • Attract, hire, and cultivate exceptional talent to form a team of experts in genomics, biomedical informatics and data engineers.
  • Promote collaborative cross-functional workflows, knowledge sharing, and skill development.
  • Foster a culture that values diversity of thought, health work-life integration, and promotes innovation.
  • Instil strong team values rooted in scientific rigour, kindness, creativity, continuous learning, and excellence.
  • Serve as a role model and inspirational leader to empower team members, coaching, supporting, and nurturing them.

What you’ll bring

We expect credible candidates to have many of the qualifications below – AND, to be clear, we are open to candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds who have the skills, experience, capabilities, and grit to thrive at Aneira.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field).
  • Proven experience in bioinformatics, including genomic data processing, with hands-on experience in building scalable pipelines to analyze complex biological data sets.
  • Experience in design and implementation of health data architectures that support the integration of clinical, omics, and EHR data, ensuring scalability and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Proficiency in Python and associated data processing frameworks (e.g. pyspark, ibis, polars, kedro).
  • Experience with Cloud services such as GCP BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow.
  • Experience with an Orchestration platform of ETL/ELT pipelines with tools like Dagster, Prefect, Flyte, NextFlow or Google Cloud Composer.
  • Proficiency in database systems and along with experience working
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code tools like Terraform for GCP deployments.
  • Strong knowledge of data privacy and compliance standards (HIPAA, GDPR) with secure data pipeline implementation.
  • Effective collaboration with cross-functional teams to deliver robust technical solutions.
