What we do

Aneira is a new mission-driven company operating at the intersection of human care, computational biology and machine learning. We are here to build a smart, equitable and sustainable health and care service for women, families and communities. We are part of the Population Health Partners family.

What this role is about

We’re an energetic and innovative new company (born 2024), and we want to bring people on board who have that energy: a refusal to accept the world as it is, and a determination to change it for the better. You might be young and hungry; you might be mature and wily - whatever your background or profile we don’t care - we want someone with a sparkle in their eye, the grit and determination to get amazing stuff done together.

This is a full-time role for a Data Scientist. As outlined in the responsibilities below, we need someone who can throw themselves into the detail of “doing the do” on wrangling datasets, deriving features, building models, iterating and learning, communicating their findings. You’ll be doing that surrounded by literally some of the best computational biology, statistics and machine learning people on the planet, so hold onto your hat and get ready to learn as well as deliver. Every day is a school day!

What you’ll do

Data science strategy:

Work with Aneira leadership on our data and modelling strategies – where to access, generate, transform datasets to inform our work

Data prep:
  • Design and implement robust data pipelines to efficiently collect, process, and store diverse healthcare datasets, ensuring data integrity and scalability.
  • Wrangle datasets as diverse as GP data, electronic health records, genomics, hormones, lab results, imaging, into submission to be tractable for modelling
  • Optimise data architecture and workflows to enhance performance and minimise latency in data processing.
Data Analysis and Modelling:
  • Use advanced statistical techniques and machine learning algorithms to analyse large datasets related to women’s health, cardiometabolic conditions and other clinical areas as needed. Get into causal inference as needed (with support).
  • Develop explanatory and predictive models to identify trends, patterns, and insights that drive learning, decision-making and better patient outcomes.
Technical Support and Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., clinical folks, designers, product and tech teams) to translate data-driven findings into actionable recommendations for service and product development and optimisation.
  • Collaborate with the engineering team to integrate machine learning models and algorithms into our products and services, ensuring seamless deployment and scalability.
  • Contribute to the development of data-driven solutions and prototypes to address key challenges in women’s health and related cardiometabolic conditions.
Research and Innovation:
  • Stay informed about the latest advancements in data science, healthcare, and women’s health research, and apply relevant insights to drive innovation within the organisation.
  • Participate in academic collaborations, conferences, and industry events to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and contribute to the broader scientific community.
Documentation and Communication:
  • Document methodologies, algorithms, and findings in a clear and concise manner, ensuring reproducibility and transparency in data science workflows.
  • Present results and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences through reports, presentations, and interactive visualisations.
  • Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making by promoting best practices in data analysis, modelling, and interpretation across the organszation.

What you’ll bring

  • We would expect credible candidate to have many of the qualifications below – AND, to be clear, are open to candidates with non-traditional educational backgrounds who have the skills, experiences, capabilities and grit to thrive at Aneira.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field).
  • Proven experience in data science, machine learning, and statistical analysis, preferably in the healthcare or life sciences domain.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, with experience in data manipulation, visualisation, and modelling libraries (e.g., pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch).
  • Strong knowledge of database systems and SQL, along with experience working with structured and unstructured data sources.
  • Some level of familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark) is a plus – ideally, you’ll be able to optimise your own algorithms to run efficiently in production.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Proven track record of collaborating effectively in multidisciplinary teams and delivering high-impact projects on time and within scope.
